summer smoothie

I mentioned awhile back that I’ve been on a green smoothie kick this summer, but recently they started to get a little snoozie. My go-to mix is a couple handfuls of spinach + coconut milk + banana + blueberries, so I’ve been trying to mix it up trying out adding everything from frozen cherries, to flax seed, to kale, to watermelon.

After a girlfriend recently ordered a mango margarita while out at a favorite Mexican restaurant, I was inspired to pick some up at the grocery store to try them out in a few things – starting with my daily smoothie. While unfortunately it didn’t make the green smoothie color any less green-ish/purple, it did add a super sweet, smooth, tropical taste to my breakfast and since then I’ve been adding them to everything. From a homemade mango salsa (tasty recipe to follow soon) to the most adventurous of all – scallops with a mango sauce (very proud of this one), I’m now inspired to try more fruit based recipes all summer long. If you have any favorites – let me know! {PS – I always found mangoes super intimidating to cut, but I followed this tutorial and found it easy peasy!}

Clearly I’m having a moment with camo, so when I saw this Gap for GQ Todd Snyder tee a few months back I had to make it mine. Forget that it’s meant for the boys – some of my best finds lately are from the men’s department. I just go with a size or two down from my regular fit, or with this tee I just knotted it up a bit. Anyway – no one’s going to question if you’re wearing mens shirts as long as you pair it with the girliest of skirts. Speaking of – this skirt is a true testament to always purchasing what you love – I wore this crinkly Ralph Lauren skirt to my junior year prom {and I recently had my 10 year class reunion…}!

I love my bright colored and fur covered coats, but the black winter coat is a ultimate winter essential. It can be dressed up or down, worn during the days, nights, and weekends, and can make any ensemble immensely nicer. I’ve found it so useful that over the past few years I’ve acquired a couple several. When you can buy something that never looks dated year after year, I’d say it’s worth investing in.

behind the scenes with herve leger

While in NYC last week I stopped by the Herve Leger / BCBG showroom to get a sneak peek at the hair and makeup run through before the Herve Leger show. The look was natural, pretty, and light, which kept the focus during the show on the intricate, beaded, and swingy creations that came down the runway. While it was fun to get a behind the scenes view of what goes into the final planning stages before a show, my favorite part may have been just seeing the model get all done up, while sitting there in her slippers! Proof that not even models run around in heels all the time.
