cheers to skirts

By November 30, 2010 Style

Tis the season to completely overdress for any and all occasions. While it’s quite apparent I’m a big fan of sequins and fur, I’m loving how the skirt has gotten some long overdue attention. I’ve sung the praises for skirts in the past, but lately they have really stepped it up a notch and I’m obsessed with all the tulle and frills the latest ones are detailed with. Perfect to dress down with a sweater, or dress up with a blazer and some sparkly jewels. These skirts are made for a party…cheers!

weekend of food

By November 29, 2010 Uncategorized

I hope I’m not the only one still recovering from a Thanksgiving food coma. I have soaked up every minute of these past few food filled days and am feeling relaxed, refreshed, and ready to welcome the holidays with open arms. My weekend revolved around eating loads of food, and not just on Turkey Day. I have been entirely too giddy about my latest grocery store find, which I last had in college and have been unable to find for the past 4 years-until now. It does not matter if you are a Peep fan…these sugar cookie dough peeps are pure bliss.

The good food weekend continued with a delicious dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, catching up with friends over margaritas, and despite my aversion to Black Friday chaos, I ventured out to the shops just for a bit. Amazingly, other than an iced coffee, I walked away without a single purchase.

Finally, I started to pull our some of my favorite holiday decor. I can’t wait to trim the tree with these vintage ornaments I picked up while at a flea market last summer.

Cheers to Cyber Monday! Please do tell if you know about a ‘can’t miss’ deal today-spread the love!

shopping essentials

By November 24, 2010 Style

I’ve never been a Black Friday shopper. The early alarm clock, the cold weather, the crazies running around bumping carts and displays, the endless lines of people-all sacrificing their day, and sometimes dignity, to score a good deal. Just thinking about it makes me break into a cold sweat…ughhhhaa. With that said, I do know a thing or 2 about smart shopping, and so no better time than now to share some of these pearls of wisdom in case you are one of the strong willed who will be making it out into the craziness of Black Friday.

1) Wear smart shoes. Smart does not have to mean unsightly (like wearing gym shoes outside of the gym-please, please no). Considering that at some point during the shopping day you may have the urge to trip the lady next to you in order to grab the last pair of size 7 Steve Maddens, it would be good to have on a pair of simple flats so you can quickly try them on and get on your way. For extra points, keep a small pair of rolled up socks in your purse so you can quickly try on boots right where you’re standing.

2) Carry the right purse. You don’t want to be digging through a mess of bills, receipts, and 10 lip glosses just to find your wallet when checking out at a store, so carry a small and well cleaned out purse. Bonus for carrying a purse with a cross body strap…leaves you with an extra hand and shoulder for carrying your shopping bags!

3) Wear the right outfit. Layers are perfect-if it’s not awful weather, ditch the winter coat in the car. Ideally, wear leggings and a tank as your first layer of clothing. This way, you can skip the dressing rooms (and the 10 foot tall piles of clothing that are building up in each one) because you can try anything on right over your clothes.

If you are heading out for an early morning shopping trip this Friday-best of luck to you-and be sure to let me know what I missed out on!
